(IMFS) International Floatation Systems, Inc. Building 3 – One piece Water Ballasted Wave Attenuators 50’w x 130’L x 10’ draft to replace the aging steel vessel and barges, portions of which currently function as the South Breakwater at the Burrard Yacht Club
The Burrard Yacht Club is located in beautiful North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is an active club consisting of power and sailing vessels mainly 25 to 60 feet in length. With approximately 300 members the club enjoys secure moorage, in the middle of a very busy Pacific coastal port of Canada.
The Club, which contains both open moorages and boatsheds, could not exist on this site without the protection provided by the current wooden sections, steel barges and a decommissioned navy vessel. However, this assembly of mixed aging units is not a viable long term solution to deal with waves created by adverse weather and the wash generated by seabus traffic and the newer and larger tractor tugs. This was evident for over a decade and it has taken the club approximately 7 years to decide on the best way forward. After getting an assessment of what type of breakwater would work by Northwest Hydraulic Consultants of North Vancouver, the club gave the contract to (IMFS) International Marine Floatation Systems, Inc. to build three 50’ (15.24m) x130’ (39.62m)x 10ft (3m) Draft, with 28 inches of freeboard. These 3 large wave attenuators are connected together to make 390 ft (118.87m) and provide 6000 tons of protection for the marina.
